A little reminder to pause (before the rush begins)

The last few days, Dave and I spent time visiting our family in Utah. Now that our kids and their families are scattered across the country, these quick trips are extra special. My heart always longs for more time—every moment feels like a treasure.

Before we left, I made a choice: no laptop. I wanted to be fully present. What an incredible joy—and a breath of fresh air—it was to disconnect and simply be.

One highlight? Watching our granddaughter perform with her color guard team in competition. What an amazing experience! Truly delightful and so fun to cheer her on. Just a couple of pictures to give you a taste.

Researchers tell us that people who practice gratitude have a healthier outlook on life—even in hard seasons. Once again, science catches up with what God said long ago:

“A cheerful heart is good medicine,
but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength.”

Proverbs 17:22

Take a moment today to thank God for the small, good things. They’re everywhere if you pause to notice.

🙏🏻 May I pray for you?

From providing specialized medical care for a family member to securing a permanent home for us, we’ve watched him move past every obstacle. And I’ll be honest—we struggled...

Last night an arctic blast flew through our area. It’s a rather rude reality when you step outside the door today with a reminder that winter arrived early this season. My Christmas decorations, such as they are this year, are finally up. When we moved a couple years ago, friends sent a small tabletop Christmas tree to greet us in our new home. As we set it up this year and fluffed its smooshed branches, I smiled and thanked God for these thoughtful friends. Other decorations bring back...

It’s been a week. Full of schedule changes, cancellations, appointments, and a whole lot of hurry-up-and-wait. I told Dave I feel far behind in almost every area of my life. The balls keep dropping with no end in sight. Everything feels important—thankfully not urgent—but I still struggle to meet each deadline with grace and confidence. And even though I know God is with me, leading and steadying me, the doubts still pile up. Each day, I’ve reminded myself to be grateful because God continues...
