Get the Wisdom That Matters Most

Since the beginning of 2025, I’ve challenged myself to read the Book of Proverbs to understand wisdom better. Some of you have joined the Wisdom Seekers Challenge. Thanks. It’s a joy to journey with you. You can still join us by clicking this link.

I see two recurring wisdom themes so far:

  1. Fear the LORD. This isn’t “shaking in your boots afraid,” but rather, a deep respect, awe, and honor towards Almighty God.
  2. Wise people heed correction and discipline.

These themes challenge me to spend more time with God and learn from him. How about you?

Consider

No one is perfect. 😲 My dad and I often joked about his “perfection.” I can still hear his laughter. When you mess up, how do you recover?

1 John 1:9 encourages you and me to confess the sin to another person. Own what you did. When you do, that mistake no longer controls you.

This past week, I heard this quote from Dietrich Bonhoeffer:

“Since the confession of sin is made in the presence of a Christian brother, the last stronghold of self-justification is abandoned. The sinner surrenders; he gives up all his evil. He gives his heart to God, and he finds the forgiveness of all his sin in the fellowship of Jesus Christ and his brother…Now he stands in the fellowship of sinners who live by the grace of God in the Cross of Jesus Christ.”

What if confessing that thing you fear the most sets you free to become all you were created to be?

Reflect

Wisdom, God’s wisdom, walks in truth even when the correction or discipline causes pain.

🙏🏻 May I pray for you?

Dear God, Thank you for your promise to give Reader wisdom when they ask. Where there is fear in Reader’s heart, assure Reader that you are right there. If Reader struggles with hidden sin, please grant the courage to confess that sin to you and another trusted friend. Thank you for your promise of forgiveness for all sin, God. You provide everything Reader needs to live abundantly and freely. Amen.

This past week has been filled with concerns. One of the heaviest is the sale of our home. We’re approaching the one-year mark since we listed it, and we’re not sure what to do. We believe we are where God wants us, yet the house remains unsold. So we ask God, What are you doing? Did we mishear you? Maintaining two residences has stretched us financially. Thankfully, we have wonderful neighbors and a great realtor keeping an eye on things. And God continues to provide for every need. Still,...

Sometimes, you simply don’t want to do something. Like… Write a letter. ✍️ Have that difficult conversation. 🗣️ Do the dishes. 🧽 Clean the bathroom. 🚽 Get those test results. 👩⚕️ Face your fear head-on. 😨 Be an adult. 🤷♀️ (My grown kids call this adulting 😀) Sometimes you’d rather skip it. Ever feel this way? When you do, remember you don’t have to face any of this alone. God remains closer than the air you breathe. I needed this reminder today. Consider A couple of months ago, I shared a...
