It wasn’t the gift… it was what it meant

It’s February already. 🤯 We just packed away our Christmas decorations a couple of weeks ago!

But all is good.

This morning, as I read my Bible, I was reminded that God gives good gifts. And today—this very moment—is a gift from His hand.

Consider

Dr. Gary and Barb Rosberg have spent over 40 years serving married couples. Dave and I met them years ago through a Focus on the Family event, and their passion for Jesus and strong marriages is contagious.

Recently, they launched a new podcast, The Rosbergs: Your Marriage Coaches—a fresh take on their years of wisdom. If you’re looking for encouragement in your marriage, this could be a great resource.

Reflect

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, someone recently asked if Dave and I had big plans.

Living in a metro area, there’s no shortage of fancy dinners or fun activities. But honestly? The thought of battling crowds in the cold and dark makes me cringe.

So, I’m brainstorming ways to celebrate Dave at home—simple things that remind him how much he’s cherished.

In his book Cherish, Gary Thomas devotes an entire chapter to "The Art of Cherishing Your Spouse." He says cherishing is built on small, steady affirmations. It’s paying attention to what delights your spouse.

That’s why this moment meant so much to me:

Dave brought home this tea—a type of decaf I love but wouldn’t buy for myself. As he unpacked his suitcase, he said, “I got you something.” A small gesture, but it spoke volumes. It reminded me that he holds me close to his heart and mind. ❤️

What’s one small way you can show your spouse they are cherished today?

🙏🏻 May I pray for you?

Dear God, thank You for showering Your love on Reader. Envelope them today with everything they need. Help them study their spouse better than ever before. Heal any hurts, and nurture in them the ability to delight in their spouse—just as You delight in Reader. Amen.

This past week has been filled with concerns. One of the heaviest is the sale of our home. We’re approaching the one-year mark since we listed it, and we’re not sure what to do. We believe we are where God wants us, yet the house remains unsold. So we ask God, What are you doing? Did we mishear you? Maintaining two residences has stretched us financially. Thankfully, we have wonderful neighbors and a great realtor keeping an eye on things. And God continues to provide for every need. Still,...

Sometimes, you simply don’t want to do something. Like… Write a letter. ✍️ Have that difficult conversation. 🗣️ Do the dishes. 🧽 Clean the bathroom. 🚽 Get those test results. 👩⚕️ Face your fear head-on. 😨 Be an adult. 🤷♀️ (My grown kids call this adulting 😀) Sometimes you’d rather skip it. Ever feel this way? When you do, remember you don’t have to face any of this alone. God remains closer than the air you breathe. I needed this reminder today. Consider A couple of months ago, I shared a...
