What if saying no to one good thing made room for something greater?

Last week, Dave and I attended a long-anticipated wedding—virtually. And once again, we found ourselves praising God for the gift of technology.

I'll be honest—I have a love-hate relationship with technology, especially when it doesn't extend grace for user error. :)

But here's a fun fact that still makes me smile: almost 19 years ago, Dave used semi-brand-new technology called Skype to connect our son—who was living in Austria—to our daughter's wedding in Colorado.

People at the wedding marveled at it. Some even grumbled, thinking someone was rude enough to bring a laptop to a wedding just to work. Ha!

What they didn't know? Our son was watching in Austria—at 3 a.m.—just to be there for his sister's big day. Now THAT is love. <3

(If you don't know what Skype is, ask your parents.)

What’s Been On My Heart

Last week, during my monthly meeting with other women who serve women in various capacities, our facilitator asked a thought-provoking question:

"Are there any changes you believe would be productive and effective in this season?"

I felt God nudge me—again.

Since the beginning of this year, God has continued to show me how easily I get overcommitted. And I hope I'm not alone in that.

Slowly—and sometimes painfully—I've been removing myself from good, growing, and soul-enriching activities to create space for what God is calling me to in this season of my life.

So I want to ask you the same question:

What changes could you make that would help you become more productive and effective in this season of your life?

I love the word season in that question. Our lives are seasonal—and the wisest man who ever lived said it best:

"For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven." — Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NLT)

Not every season calls for the same things. And not every good thing belongs in every season.

Maybe, like me, God is nudging you to let something go—not because it isn't valuable, but because something even more purposeful is waiting for the space you'll create.

A Note About Your Emails

Speaking of creating space for what works—I've created a way for you to do just that with my emails.

You can now choose exactly which emails you'd like to receive from me each week:

Monday—The weekly newsletter (this one!)

Wednesday—Resource Wednesday: trusted resources to help and encourage you

Friday—A quick follow-up recap of the week's resources and offers

Just click the Update Your Preferences link at the bottom of any email from me—including this one—and select what works best for you right now.

(Note: If you've purchased something from me in the past, you'll see a quick authentication screen pop up first to protect your privacy. It's simple, I promise!

Let me know if you need any help.)

One more important tip: Please add help@kit.com to your safe senders list. This helps make sure my emails land in your inbox and don't get lost in spam or—yep—the trash. (That's exactly where mine went.)

This week I said no to something I genuinely wanted to do. Not because it was bad. Not because someone guilted me into it. But because my body told me to stop, and for once, I listened. I'll be honest: I didn't want to. The to-do list didn't care that I was running low. The calendar didn't rearrange itself out of compassion. And the part of me that likes to push through? She had opinions. But real self-care isn't always a bath and a candle. Sometimes it's the harder, quieter thing—choosing...

After weeks of gray skies and steady rain, the sun finally showed up this week. Dave and I walk just about everywhere—it's our primary mode of transportation. We walk in the cold, the rain, and the cloudy, windy days, so these last few days of sunshine have been a real treat. 😊 At one point on a recent walk, I stopped mid-stride, closed my eyes, and turned my face fully into the warmth. Just stood there. Soaking it in. Letting it replenish what the long, gray stretch had quietly drained. That...

Well, we finished our taxes and got them filed. Phew! Anybody else feel like this is a slog through knee-high mud each year? As much as I dread the work and learning the results, every year I see how God provides. Whether that's an unexpected refund or discovering we have remaining taxes due, we've always had the resources we needed. God always shows up right on time. Oh, by the way, in my family, tax day means celebration—it's my brother's birthday. ☺️ I much prefer that party. What’s Been...
