☕ What I Discovered Over a Pot of Tea (You’ll Be Surprised!)

While our most recent home in Colorado was under construction, I found a small out-of-the-way cafe where I could complete a writing project. It was a quirky, homey location with delicious food, friendly people, and fantastic service. A local favorite, people visited and sat for a while. Sadly, that small spot has since closed. 😞

The Colorado sunshine often fools you into thinking it's warmer outside than it is. That day, the brisk wind whipped my desire for a nice cup of tea, not something that tasted like dirty water. Many coffee shops specialize in diverse coffees, but very few offer tea of the same quality as their coffee. To my delight, this little cafe provided an excellent selection of teas.

When the server brought my tea and a small bite to eat, the tea was loose-leaf, served in a two-cup diffusing teapot on a perfectly designed wooden serving tray. Small pots of honey, sugar, and cream and a fancy teaspoon completed this beautiful presentation. It was a similar concept to this picture, though this is one of their pour-over coffees.

It was such a simple thing. However, they satisfied my tea snobbishness, and I’ve never forgotten it.

Consider

Psalm 23 describes how God does the little things to show us his care. Review the first three verses and picture yourself being pampered by God:

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.

He makes me lie down in green pastures,

he leads me beside quiet waters,

he refreshes my soul.

He guides me along the right paths

for his name’s sake.

More little things meant to serve you—peaceful rest, quiet waters, companionship, direction, and more. Where have you seen these God-inspired care notes, his carefully prepared cup of Joe, or delicious tea?

Reflect

For most people, the sound of gently falling water or rain feels soothing and mesmerizing. I think God knows this. 😉 That’s why he created babbling brooks, waterfalls, and ocean waves lapping on the beach.

Try this fun exercise.

Read Psalm 23 out loud. Then close your eyes and picture Jesus in this Psalm. Where are you? What do you hear? How does your body feel? Talk with God about this experience.

🙏🏻 May I pray for you?

Dear God, What beauty you create for Reader to help Reader experience your concern and care. Whenever Reader hears gently flowing water, please help them remember your goodness and kindness and how you provide everything Reader needs. Amen.

This past week has been filled with concerns. One of the heaviest is the sale of our home. We’re approaching the one-year mark since we listed it, and we’re not sure what to do. We believe we are where God wants us, yet the house remains unsold. So we ask God, What are you doing? Did we mishear you? Maintaining two residences has stretched us financially. Thankfully, we have wonderful neighbors and a great realtor keeping an eye on things. And God continues to provide for every need. Still,...

Sometimes, you simply don’t want to do something. Like… Write a letter. ✍️ Have that difficult conversation. 🗣️ Do the dishes. 🧽 Clean the bathroom. 🚽 Get those test results. 👩⚕️ Face your fear head-on. 😨 Be an adult. 🤷♀️ (My grown kids call this adulting 😀) Sometimes you’d rather skip it. Ever feel this way? When you do, remember you don’t have to face any of this alone. God remains closer than the air you breathe. I needed this reminder today.
